Lingering Showers Could Freeze Causing Travel Problems Tuesday

The National Weather Service urges caution for motorists and issued special weather statements for parts of the region.

Remaining isolated showers could cause travel problems Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. The lingering showers will continue Tuesday morning through early afternoon in the Catskills, mid-Hudson alley and southern Taconics.

The NWS issued a special weather statement in effect until 1 p.m. because of temperatures remaining in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.

Icy surface conditions are possible, the NWS said, and travelers should exercise caution, especially on untreated ground surfaces.

Another special weather statement was issued for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester counties for the same lingering light freezing rain and drizzle.

Across the lower Hudson Valley, the precipitation will gradually transition to plain rain as temperatures slowly rise above freeing through the morning Tuesday.

Until this occurs, the NWS said, residual slick spots will remain.

Again, travelers should be prepared for the possibility of slippery roads and use caution.
