Loaded Car Carrier On Fire Closes I-87 Northbound Near Woodbury
Traffic was backed up for miles and thick, black smoke could be seen from even farther away as firefighters battled the flames.

ORANGE COUNTY, NY — All northbound lanes of I-87 were closed late Wednesday morning and into the afternoon as fire crews battled flames consuming a loaded car carrier.
According to the NYSDOT, the New York State Thruway's northbound lanes were closed completely at milepost 47.1, between Exit 16 and Exit 17.
Images of the the scene posted on social media appeared to show a car carrier hauling at least eight vehicles, entirely engulfed in flames. Traffic was backed up for more than two miles and thick, black smoke could be seen from as far away as the Rte. 6 overpass as firefighters battled the blaze.
