Main Street Apartment Burglary Turned Into A Standoff With Barricaded Suspect: Police

The Rockland County REACT (Rescue, Entry, and Counter Terrorism) team was able to safely take the man into custody, cops said.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — A burglary call that turned into a standoff with police eventually ended safely last night, in Rockland County.

On Tuesday, around 6 p.m, the Spring Valley Police Department was called to North Main Street for a burglary in progress.

Responding officers found a man inside of an apartment and when confronted by the police, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, cops said. The Rockland County REACT (Rescue, Entry, and Counter Terrorism) team was activated, and they were able to successfully take the suspect into custody.

Shawn Alexander Laury, 31, of Spring Valley, was arrested and charged with felony burglary and felony criminal mischief.

Laury was held pending arraignment in the Spring Valley Justice Court.
