Maloney Announces Hudson Valley Military Academy Appointees

NEWBURGH, NY — Eleven Hudson Valley students have been accepted to United States service academies. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney, D-Cold Spring, made the announcement after holding a reception with appointees and their families. U.S. representatives have the authority to nominate students to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.

To assist with the nomination process, Rep. Maloney established an esteemed committee of military and civic leaders from the Hudson Valley which interviewed potential nominees, reviewed their applications and made recommendations. The academies make the final decision on who receives an appointment of admission.

“I’m incredibly proud of all of the young people who submitted their applications for appointment to our service academies, and I know that they’ll make the Hudson Valley proud,” Maloney said. “America’s facing constantly emerging threats and new challenges that must be confronted head-on — we need committed new leaders who can rise to the challenge — I think our appointees are the best people for the job.”
