Police said he offered no resistance and was taken into custody.

Scott didn't have the shotgun when he was found by the troopers, who said the gun was later recovered from a snowbank.

An investigation revealed that Scott went to a local home and asked for directions and whether he could use the bathroom, police said.

Once inside the home, he attacked the owner with a knife, stabbing him repeatedly, according to police.

Scott then fled from the home with a shotgun from the residence, police said.

The injured homeowner was treated at a hospital and released.

Scott was sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
