Man Arrested After 7-Hour Standoff In Hudson Valley: UPDATE

A trooper was grazed by a bullet that, police said, was fired by the man out his front door.

WAPPINGER, NY — A Hudson Valley man was charged with multiple felonies — including attempted murder — after he held off state police for about seven hours at his Wappinger home. State police said Christoper DeMilio, 47, was charged with five counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of criminal possession of a firearm and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

Police said they were sent to a home at 22 Marlorville Road in the Town of Wappingers around 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2 for an unknown disturbance.

Upon arrival, the person who called 911 told troopers DeMilio was inside the home with two children.

Troopers approached the home, and DeMilio let the children out of the front door. He then went back inside. The children were taken to a safe location, according to authorities.

Police said DeMilio then fired multiple shots at responders from a second-floor window. He next fired through the front door, with one of the rounds grazing the arm of a trooper, police said.

A perimeter was established by police around the home, and State Police Crisis Negotiators arrived and began talking with DeMilio.

While negotiations were taking place, DeMilio continued to fire rounds within the home, police said.

Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, DeMilio surrendered and was taken into custody by members of the State Police Special Operations Response Team.

DeMilio was arraigned in the Town of Wappinger Court and sent without bail to the Dutchess County Jail.

He is scheduled to reappear in court Sept. 9.

Authorities said the trooper who was grazed by a bullet was identified as Trooper Aaron Tiso of the Wappinger barracks. He was treated and released from MidHudson Regional Hospital.

Two other troopers were treated for minor injuries and released.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, Village of Wappingers Fall Police, MTA Police, Town of Fishkill Police and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response.
