Man Shot At Halloween Party In Copake

Police said the party grew larger because it was posted on social media.

COPAKE, NY — An argument at a Halloween party led to the shooting of man in Columbia County. Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, state police from the Livingston barracks responded to a reported shooting on Waldorf Ridge Road in the Town of Copake.

Troopers and Columbia County deputies found a large group of young people at the home, as well as a man with numerous gunshot wounds.

The preliminary investigation found that the home's owner hosted a Halloween party Saturday night for several friends. Authorities said the party grew throughout the night to more than 60 people because it was posted on social media.

During the party, an argument broke out between some of the partygoers and a man was shot several times with a handgun.

He was treated by Copake Rescue and taken to Albany Medical Center by Life Net helicopter. The man is currently in stable condition.

Police went to the residence of Jesus Figueroa, 26, of Philmont, and he was taken into custody.

Figueroa was charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

He was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail, awaiting further proceedings.

State police were assisted by the City of Hudson Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Columbia County District Attorney's Office, Copake Rescue and Copake Fire Department.

Authorities said the investigation is still active. Anyone with any information about the Halloween part or the shooting is asked to call the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 518-851-2972.
