Man Struck, Killed Crossing I-84 in Orange County
Police said he was trying to retrieve a baseball from the median.

WAWAYANDA, NY — A Bronx man was struck and killed while trying to cross I-84 Saturday.
The New York State Police said Nicholas Barba, 35, was waiting for a tow truck to arrive for his disabled vehicle on the south shoulder of I-84 west of Exit 3E in the Town of Wawayanda in Orange County.
To pass the time, he was tossing a baseball around with his son and the ball went across the roadway into the median.

While trying to retrieve the ball from the median and crossing back over the highway, he was struck by a vehicle in the right lane.
Barba was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car that hit Barba stopped at the scene and no charges are expected at this time, police said.
