Man Throws Small Dog Against Wall Because It Bit Him: NYSP

Police said he was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

SHAWANGUNK, NY — An Ulster County man was accused of throwing a small dog against the wall because it bit his hand.

The New York State Police said Anthony Gonzalez, 30, of Shawangunk, was charged Wednesday with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony.

Police said, shortly before noon Wednesday, troopers were sent to a Lakewood Road address in the town of Shawangunk for a report of a domestic dispute.

When they got to the location, troopers found the person who called outside the home holding a small dog.

Police said their investigation revealed that Gonzalez became upset when the 7-year-old Maltese dog was barking and bit his hand.

He grabbed the dog and threw it against the wall, which caused the animal to bleed from its mouth, police said.

The owner of the dog took it to Sullivan County Emergency Animal Hospital. The veterinarian told the dog's owner that the animal received minor bruising but was expected to make a full recovery.

Gonzalez was arraigned in the Town of Gardiner Court where he was given an appearance ticket to return Dec. 20.

He was also issued an order of protection to refrain from contacting the victim.
