MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Parts of the mid-Hudson Valley is under a severe thunderstorm watch.

At 3:25 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service issued the watch for Columbia, Dutchess, Sullivan and Ulster counties.

It is in effect until 11 p.m. Friday.

Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain, the weather service said.

A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for the area, with heat index values forecast to be in the mid-90s to lower 100s.
