Middletown Students Have Bags Searched Monday
A threat to the school made on Snapchat prompted officials to search the bags.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — An online threat made Sunday prompted Twin Towers Middle School officials to search students' bags as they returned to school Monday after the winter break. The threat was made on Snapchat by an unknown user to the school.
City of Middletown police got word of the threat and alerted the school district administration.
The school building was operating Monday as it would on a normal school day, and the students and staff were safe.

Officials said both students walking to school and those taking the bus will be released at the normal time.
Middletown police said they will continue the criminal investigation with support from the school district.

"Please know we take all of these types of incidents very seriously," a note to the community on the district's website said. "Consider having a conversation with your child about the potential dangers of social media as well as their responsibility as a user on social media with regard to comments, posts and shares."
