Teen Arrested In Missing Weapon Investigation: UPDATE

During the investigation, police were able to quell rumor going around social media about a threat.

CHATHAM, NY — New York State Police arrested a 15-year-old for criminal possession of a firearm, a felony. The gun was reported missing from a home in Chatham.

Police said the teen had the gun illegally.

The juvenile was issued a Columbia County Family Court appearance ticket returnable for a later date.

CHATHAM, NY — A missing firearm was recovered in Columbia County and a rumor was put to rest. State Police said the New Lebanon barracks investigated the weapon which was reported missing from a home in the Town of Chatham. During the search, which resulted in the successful recovery of the weapon, police became aware of rumor going around on social media that was alarming Chatham-area residents.

State Police said there was no evidence at any stage of the investigation of any credible threat to the Chatham schools or students.

The State Police, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Chatham Central School District officials worked together sharing information and monitoring new developments.

The criminal matter is still under investigation, police said.
