More Than 12 Families Displaced After Early Morning Fire

The fire was at the Beaumont Estates Apartments in Liberty.

LIBERTY, NY — An early morning three-alarm fire Friday displaced occupants of 13 residents in Sullivan County. The Red Cross helped more than a dozen families who escaped from the 5 a.m. blaze at the Beaumont Estates Apartments.

Five area fire departments, including the Liberty Fire Department, took four hours to put out the fire at 15 Beaumont Estates Lane, the Times Herald-Record reported.

One firefighter from the Liberty department sustained a minor hand injury, but recovered. All residents were able to get out of the building safely.

The fire is still being investigated, but may have started near the stove in one of the building's kitchen, the Times Herald-Record said.
