MURDER MYSTERY DINNER TO BENEFIT ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION

WAPPINGERS FALLS -- Mystery lovers looking for a night of fun will want to consider “The 2018 Great Debate Debacle,” a murder mystery dinner to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 21, to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

“It’s an interactive murder mystery comedy,” said Deborah Lamb of Hyde Park, who is helping promote the event.

The plot of the show by writer and director Leslie Dorler revolves around the election of the Town of Wappingers Wastepaper Management Supervisor. The candidates hold a debate and election, and as they fail in their attempts to maintain a sense of sportsmanship, chaos takes hold. The audience will have the opportunity to guess who committed the murder as well as the motive.

Both Dorler and Lamb are deeply devoted to the cause of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and supporting families living with dementia.

Lamb began volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association after her sister was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

“My sister was a four-time cancer survivor, and was then diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She had a nine-year battle with Alzheimer’s, and succumbed to it last October,” Lamb said. “I think it’s the worst disease there is because there has never been a single survivor. And it takes everything -- first your memory, and then everything physically.”

Dorler said she has many family members who have suffered from dementia and believes she is at risk herself.

“I stand a good chance of it happening to me,” Dorler said. “Right now, we have my husband’s aunt in assisted living with Alzheimer’s. It’s very close to my heart.”

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. It is the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research. The Association’s mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Its vision is a world without Alzheimer’s. Visit alz.org/hudsonvalley or call 1.800.272.3900.
