Newburgh Man Accused Of Drug Possession After Police Pursuit
Police said he left his car in a shopping center parking lot and took off by foot.
WOODBURY, NY — A Newburgh man was accused of drug possession after leading police on a chase in the town of Woodbury.
The New York State Police said Sherlan W. Simpson, 25, of Newburgh, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance/intent to sell, both felonies, and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Police said, around 11 a.m. Wednesday, a trooper from the Monroe barracks stopped a 2003 BMW with Connecticut plates on Route 32 in Woodbury for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

Simpson, who was the driver and only person in the car, fled from the traffic stop.
The BMW was found a short time later at Woodbury Commons, police said.

He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit in the parking lot.
Police said Simpson was found to have 2 kilograms of cocaine in his possession and was arrested.
He was arraigned and sent to the Orange County jail without bail.
Simpson is scheduled to return to the Town of Woodbury Court Jan. 11.
State police were assisted by the Town of Woodbury Police Department and the Woodbury Commons Security.
