Nice, Then Heat Returns: Poughkeepsie's Work Week Weather

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Of course when we return to work, the rain and storms are nowhere to be found in the Hudson Valley. After the weekend’s unsettled — and frequently stormy — weather, the work week begins with a couple of days with dry and sunny conditions.

“Dry air is projected to punch in from Canada, allowing sunshine and low humidity to return to the region on Monday and Tuesday,” said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

The next chance for precipitation, with some thunderstorms thrown in most likely, will be overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Then the heat returns to end the week and the month, with temps in or near the low 90s.

Here is the forecast for the work week from the National Weather Service for southern Westchester:

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 78. North wind around 11 mph.
• Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 50. North wind 3 to 7 mph.
• Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 79. Light and variable wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. South wind 3 to 6 mph.
• Wednesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Wednesday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 8pm. Low around 67. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Thursday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
• Thursday Night: A chance of showers before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 90.
• Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67.
