NYPD Detective Kills Himself Outside Newburgh Bar

NEWBURGH, NY — A New York Police Department detective killed himself outside Billy Joe’s Ribworks in Newburgh over the weekend. Nicholas Budney was found Sunday morning with a gunshot to his head.

Budney had been in a minor car accident before going to the restaurant and was hospitalized, but he checked himself out and went to the bar, the New York Post said.

Budney was 36 and lived in Rock Tavern, Orange County. He worked with emergency service in the Bronx and was named “Cop of the Year” four times, News 12 Hudson Valley said.
