Orange County Man Killed in Syria Fighting for ISIS

The revelation came out in federal court.

GOSHEN, NY — The identity of a New York college student from Orange County, who was killed in Syria fighting for ISIS, was revealed in Manhattan federal court.

The student—Samy El-Goarany, 24—had made a video to clear the name of a man charged with helping him join the Islamic State group, the Times Herald-Record said.

El-Goarany lived in Goshen with his parents until January 2015 when he flew to Turkey and then to Syria.

The Daily News said the man who facilitated Goarany’s trip was Ahmed Mohammed el-Gammal, who was arrested in August 2015 for conspiring to provide and then providing material support to ISIS.

Before he died, Goarany made a YouTube video confirming he joined ISIS, but making clear Gammel did not help him, CNN said.
