Passenger Killed In Deadly Collision With Mac Truck Is ID'd By Authorities As Ossining Teen

WALLKILL, NY — The identity of the teenager killed in a collision on a Hudson Valley highway has been released by authorities.

On Monday, at approximately 6:55 a.m., troopers from State Police Middletown and Greenville Barracks responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on State Route 17 westbound, near Exit 120, in the Town of Wallkill.

Investigators said a 2019 Ford was heading west on State Route 17, when a 2025 Mack truck was merging onto the westbound lanes from the right shoulder. The pickup moved from the left lane into the right lane, for reasons still under investigation, where it struck the rear of the Mack truck.

Troopers arrived on the scene shortly after the collision and found a passenger in the Ford who was already dead. That passenger was later identified as 18-year-old Kevin C. Zhagui-Morocho, of Ossining.

The driver of the Ford was identified as 28-year-old Jorge A. Jarama-Barreto, also of Ossining. He was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mack truck was identified as 50-year-old Chad S. Rannels, of Philadelphia. Rannels was uninjured in the collision.

The Troop F Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing, according to NYSP. State police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the New York State Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Middletown at 845-344-5300.
