Pedestrian Struck, Killed At Wappingers Falls Train Crossing ID'd By MTA Police As Fishkill Man

MTA police told Patch the Hudson Line train struck the man on the tracks Wednesday night, north of Bank Street crossing.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY — A Fishkill man died Wednesday night after being struck by a Metro-North train in Wappingers Falls, according to the MTA Police Department.

MTA police told Patch that on Wednesday, just before 9 p.m., Metro-North Railroad Hudson Line Train #875, which had scheduled service from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie, struck a pedestrian north of the Bank Street crossing.

The tragic incident happened between the Beacon and New Hamburg stations, in Wappingers Falls.

According to MTA police, the man was was not authorized to be on the tracks. Empress EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene at 9:25 p.m., according to the department. MTA police identified the deceased as 56-year-old Matthew J. Sendelbach, of Fishkill.

MTA police said a preliminary investigation includes a video review. As a result of the preliminary investigation, no criminality is suspected at this time, according to police,
