Police Officer Injured In 3-Car Crash

Police are asking if anyone witnessed the accident.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Town of Poughkeepsie police officer was injured in a three-car motor vehicle accident Saturday. Police said the crash occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. on South Road in the area of the Mobil gas station next to Hudson Plaza.

A 2010 Toyota was being driven by a 42-year-old man from Glendale, Arizona.

Police said he attempted to make an illegal U-turn to go south and was struck by Town of Poughkeepsie police vehicle traveling south.

After the first collision, the police car then traveled across the northbound lanes of South Road and hit a parked car in the Wendy's parking lot.

Both the Arizona man and the police officer sustained head injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.

South Road had two lanes closed in the north- and southbound directions for about four hours while the accident was investigated. One lane stayed open in each direction.

Members of the Arlington Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services assisted at the scene.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.
