Police Officer Shot, Suspect Killed In Hudson Valley
A police officer was shot and an armed man was killed in Newburgh in the Williams Street area.
NEWBURGH, NY — A police officer was shot Friday evening in Newburgh during an altercation that resulted in an armed suspect being killed. The shooting happened in the vicinity of Williams Street around 5 p.m.
A review of street cameras and police body-cam footage found that officers approached a man who displayed a handgun and started fighting with police, News 12 reported.
One Newburgh police officer was treated for a gunshot wound and a head injury at a local hospital.
The armed man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In the wake of the shooting, police were called to Concord and First streets in Newburgh for reports of a large crowd and rioting, the Times Herald-Record said.
A fire was burning around midnight at the intersection of First and Carpenter streets.
