Poughkeepsie Man Killed In 1-Car Crash On Route 9D

WAPPINGER, NY — State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that happened on State Route 9D near Stonykill Road in the Town of Wappinger. Amilcar De Martinez Palma, 25, of Poughkeepsie, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the crash occurred around 1 a.m. Tuesday, April 17.

De Martinez Palma was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra southbound on Route 9D when, for unknown reasons, he failed to stay in his lane and left the roadway and went onto the west shoulder, police said.

He overcorrected, lost control of the car and struck a utility pole, according to authorities.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Chelsea Fire Department, EMStar and Central Hudson Gas and Electric.
