Poughkeepsie Resident Among 10 Sailors Missing After Collision

Only one sailor's remains have been recovered and identified.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Poughkeepsie man is among the 10 sailors missing after the USS John S. McCain and a Liberian merchant vessel collided Monday. A release from the U.S. Navy said that Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Corey George Ingram, 28, was listed as missing. The Navy has suspended search and rescue after more than 80 hours of multinational search efforts which covered approximately 2,100-square-mile area east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.

Ten sailors went missing following a collision between the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer and the Liberian-flagged merchant vessel Alnic MC Aug. 21. The Navy has recovered and identified the remains of one sailor: Electronics Technician 3rd Class Kenneth Aaron Smith, 22, of Cherry Hill, NJ.
