Poughkeepsie School Board Candidate's Appeal Dismissed By State

The candidate, who lost the election in May, had alleged impropriety.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — An appeal filed by a losing Poughkeepsie school board candidate has been dismissed by the state education commissioner.

Lance Hardy, who lost by 53 votes to Randy Johnson in the May election, had alleged that Board President Ralph Coates had illegally obtained about 100 absentee ballots and turned them in, an article by the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

At the core of the dismissal, according to the dismissal document, is that Hardy did not name Johnson in or serve him with the petition that initiated the action.
