Poughkeepsie Schools Closed Friday

The decision was made to close the schools for another day.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — With parts of the area getting 2 feet of more of snow, the Poughkeepsie City School District closed schools for another day.

No schools in the district will be open Friday, March 17.

Snow removal because of the amount that fell has been a problem. City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison announced Thursday afternoon, that in order to facilitate removal of snow from certain sections of the City of Poughkeepsie, the snow emergency – put into effect at 12:00 am on Tuesday, March 14th,which originally covered only snow emergency routes – would be expanded City-wide.

The amount of snow piled along City streets and intersections is causing visibility issues not only for drivers, but for pedestrians – along with school students, according to information on the city's website.
