Prison Sentence Handed Down To Halloween Party Murderer

The defendant smuggled the gun into the party in two pieces.

GOSHEN, NY — The Newburgh teen who pleaded guilty to shooting to death two women at a Halloween party will spend 40 years to life in prison. Nija Johnson received his sentence Thursday in Orange County Court.

Johnson, 18, of Newburgh, had pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in the second degree and five counts of attempted murder in exchange for the sentence, the Times Herald-Record said.

Killed at the Oct. 30 party were Omani Free, 18, and Tabitha Cruz. Five others were injured.
