Queen City Pride Events to Be Held in Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park

Events include bowling, a tea dance and a picnic at Locust Grove.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Gay pride comes to the Mid-Hudson Valley this week with a series of Queen City Pride events.

Local LGBTQ group Big Gay Hudson Valley has put together four events in Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park to celebrate the Hudson Valley’s communities and celebrate diversity.

This year, the City of Poughkeepsie is showing its support of Queen City Pride with a proclamation.

Mayor Rob Rolison said the Queen City Pride events embody the diverse fabric that makes Poughkeepsie great.

“Embracing the diversity of our neighborhoods is a clear reminder that regardless of sexual orientation, race or religion, ther eis more that unites us than divides us,” he said, in a prepared statement. “Pride and the Queen City go hand in hand.”

The calendar of events for 2016 Queen City Pride are:

  • Friday, June 10: Queen City Bowling at Spins Bowl in Poughkeepsie from 8pm to 12 midnight.
  • Saturday, June 11: Queen-Sized Tea Dance at Union Tavern on Market Street in Poughkeepsie from 2pm to 6pm.
  • Saturday, June 11: Jackie Hoffman Kvetches at the CIA, presented in partnership with Half Moon Theatre, Jackie Hoffman will star in special performance at The Culinary Institute of America’s Marriott Pavilion in Hyde Park.
  • Sunday, June 12: Big Gay Hudson Valley’s Summer Community Picnic returns to the Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie from 5pm to 11pm. With music served-up by local all-vinyl DJs Ali Gruber and Squirrelsuit, activities for families, live performances by a variety of local talent, and dancing, this BYO event offers something for everyone.
