HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A cold front is sweeping through the region today, bringing rain, snow, wind and chillier temperatures, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service in New York City predicts temperatures will continue to fall through the rest of the day today and into tonight.

Temperatures will drop all the way down into the 20s later tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Rain is expected today, with early morning showers giving way to more widespread rain this afternoon and evening.

“Some wet snow will mix in with the rain this evening,” the National Weather Service said.

It predicts a coating to an inch of snow accumulation at most. Wind gusts today could approach 30 miles per hour.

Looking ahead, Friday will bring a slight, or 20 percent, chance of precipitation, but the remainder of the workweek and the weekend will be mostly dry, according to the National Weather Service. Daytime highs for Friday through Sunday will be in the 40s, its meteorologists said.

Here are the forecast details for the lower Hudson Valley area via the National Weather Service:

Today: Rain before 2 p.m., then snow likely, possibly mixed with rain. Temperature rising to near 45 by noon, then falling to around 40 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a northwest wind 16 to 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: Snow likely, possibly mixed with rain, becoming all snow after 7 p.m., then gradually ending. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 30. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 45. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of rain before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 50. West wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Saturday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 32.

Sunday: Cloudy, with a high near 49.

Today: Rain showers likely before 1 p.m., then a chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 46. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 26. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: A slight chance of snow after 2 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 43. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: A slight chance of rain before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 34. South wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. West wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45.
