Police Chief Shot, Suspect Killed In Orange County: UPDATE
The police chief will fully recover after being shot responding to a domestic disturbance.

MAYBROOK, NY — The Town of Montgomery and Village of Maybrook police chief is expected to fully recover after being shot in the upper torso Tuesday morning. Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor was shot while responding to a domestic disturbance, according to New York State Police.
The suspect, who had barricaded himself in an Abbey Street home, was shot and killed.
He was identified by New York State Police as Anthony Bostick, 28.

In a statement posted on the Orange County website, County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus said he has worked with Chief Amthor 20 years ago in the City of Newburgh and they have remained friends.

“Butch is a true gentleman who has dedicated his life to law enforcement,” he said.
“I ask Orange County residents to keep Chief Amthor and his family in their prayers,” Neuhaus said.
He said that this incident was a reminder of the dangers of police work and how deserving law enforcement is of the community’s support and encouragement.
Assisting at the scene were New York State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT), Orange County Sheriff's Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Village of Maybrook PD, Town of Montgomery PD, Village of Harriman PD, Chester PD, City of Newburgh PD, Town of Newburgh PD, and multiple Fire and EMS agencies.

MAYBROOK, NY — Officials have confirmed that an officer has been shot in Maybrook, Orange County. Police have the suspect barricaded in a home in the area of Abbey Avenue.
The officer’s injuries are unknown, and the investigation is ongoing, Spectrum News HV reported..
Police investigators and a negotiator are on the scene, the Times Herald-Record said.
