Route 218 Paving Starts Monday, Expect Closures

The road work will take place in Cornwall and Highlands.

Route 218 in the towns of Cornwall and Highlands in Orange County is expected to undergo paving activities beginning Monday. The work take place, weather permitting, to Sept. 7.

No work or closures will occur over Labor Day weekend Sept. 1-5.

Paving activities are expected to occur between Route 9W/Route 293 and Washington Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday through Thursday. This work will require a single lane closure with alternating traffic, which will be controlled by flaggers.

Route 218 between Washington Road and Mountain House Lane is expected to be closed for paving activities beginning at 7 a.m. on Aug. 22, until 5 p.m. on Aug. 31, and again beginning at 7 a.m. on Sept. 6, until 5 p.m. Sept. 7.

Use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay particular attention to flaggers and all traffic control devices, including signs.

Remember fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
