Semi Driver Might Not Have Realized Truck Hit Motorcycle After I-84 Collision: NYSP

WAWAYANDA, NY — Police are asking for the public's help locating a tractor-trailer involved in a serious collision with a motorcycle in Orange County.

On Tuesday, at 9:11 a.m., New York State Police responded to a serious personal injury crash involving a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 east, in the town of Wawayanda.

Crash investigators said 26-year-old Zachary Roque was riding a 2025 Triumph motorcycle east on Interstate 84, when he attempted to pass a truck and hit the rear of the tractor-trailer. Roque lost control of the motorcycle, was ejected, and struck the guardrail.

He was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown for treatment of injuries.

The tractor-trailer continued east following the collision. Investigators believe the truck driver may not have been aware that the motorcycle made contact with the vehicle.

The tractor-trailer involved is described as being all white. No additional identifying information is available at this time, according to NYSP.

The State Police Middletown Bureau of Criminal Investigation is attempting to identify and locate the tractor-trailer, and interview any witnesses to the crash.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation.

Interstate 84 east was closed between exits 15 and 19 for hours while police investigated the crash.
