Severe Thunderstorms, Isolated Tornado Possible In Mid-Hudson

The National Weather Service said the main threat is damaging winds of 58 mph or greater.

MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Ahead of a cold front moving through the region, there is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms — including a possible tornado — Wednesday in parts of the mid-Hudson Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties.

Meteorologists said the main threat — into the night — is damaging winds of 58 mph or greater.

An isolated tornado or large hail 1 inch in diameter or larger is also possible.

In addition to the severe weather potential, locally heavy rain could cause ponding of water on roadways and standing water in low-lying areas, the weather service said. Isolated to scattered flash flooding may occur if thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same areas.
