Severe Thunderstorms Possible In Hudson Valley: Here's When, What To Know

There are several chances for storms this week, find out the latest forecast, according to meteorologists.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Thunderstorms are possible in the Hudson Valley region late Tuesday, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service’s New York office predicts thunderstorms could impact the region, mainly north and west of New York City, late this afternoon and into the evening.

“A few storms may be severe and produce damaging wind gusts,” the National Weather Service said. “Be ready to move indoors if warnings are issued!”

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued Tuesday afternoon for parts of eastern New York until 10 p.m.

As of 4:30 p.m., the watch included Ulster and Dutchess counties in the Hudson Valley region.

The National Weather Service’s Albany office reports the main threat is damaging wind gusts.

It anticipates the timing of showers and thunderstorms in the mid-Hudson Valley to be before 10 p.m., noting “some of the storms could be severe.”

The warm weather will continue in the coming days, with highs on Wednesday and Thursday in the 80s, and in the upper 70s on Friday. There is a chance for showers or thunderstorms throughout the workweek, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday is expected to be dry, with cooler temperatures, reaching around 70 degrees, forecasters said.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
