Severe Thunderstorms Predicted For Hudson Valley: What To Expect

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected in the region this afternoon and evening.
The likeliest timeframe for storms today is between noon and 9 p.m., though the chance increases after around 2 to 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
It predicts another hot and humid day, with high temperatures in the 90s, but it will feel like it is over 100.

“This will prime the area for thunderstorms later today, so be on the lookout as some storms could quickly become severe,” the National Weather Service said.

Heat advisories are in effect from noon today through 8 p.m., with heat index values up to 102 expected in southeast New York. The combined heat and humidity could result in heat-related illnesses, according to the National Weather Service.

Stay in air conditioning, drink plenty of fluids, and limit strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening, it advises.
An air quality alert is also in effect until 11 p.m. due to ground level ozone in multiple southern New York counties, including Westchester County.
Saturday will be the most pleasant day of the weekend, as the humidity is expected to drop, and it will be slightly cooler, with highs in the upper 80s. Sunday will be similar temperature-wise, but another chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Sunday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Sunny early, then becoming mostly cloudy and hot, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 101. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 63. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61. Calm wind.
Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 91. Light south wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 88. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 89. Light southwest wind becoming south 11 to 16 mph in the morning.
Sunday Night: Showers, mainly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Low around 61. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
