Sheriff Reports High-End Car Thefts In Dutchess

The vehicles that were stolen were unlocked with the key fobs inside or accessible, authorities said.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office is alerting residents to a spate of car thefts. Authorities said the thefts were of high-end automobiles and occurred mainly in the southeastern part of Dutchess County during the late-night and early morning hours.

So far, the vehicles that were stolen were unlocked with the key fobs inside or accessible, the sheriffs said.

The thefts and recoveries of the vehicles are currently being investigated.

These thefts are thought to be part of a larger out-of-state crime ring, and whoever is running it are considered to be armed and dangerous, the sheriff's office said.

Dutchess County residents are warned to always lock their vehicles and never leave the keys inside.

If you observe a suspicious person or someone attempting to commit one of these thefts, do not confront them yourself. Call 911 immediately and let law enforcement handle the matter.

At this time, the sheriff's office said, there is no suspect description. Further information may be released as it becomes available.
