Some Ulster Locations Won't Have Power Until Tuesday: CenHud

MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — More than 8,100 Central Hudson customers are still waiting for their electricity to come back as of 11 a.m. Monday.

Ulster County remains hardest hit, with more than 8,000 customers without power.

They've been in the dark since the snow and ice storm that pummeled the region Thursday night and most of Friday.

Central Hudson said its restored power to about 87 percent of customers, using a force of more than 900 line and tree professionals. They've addressed more than 600 individual damage locations and restored electricity to more than 58,000 homes and businesses.

While the weather forecast is calling for a light wintry mix Monday, turning into rain as temperatures rise above freezing, Central Hudson said it doesn't expect these conditions to hamper restoration efforts.

Beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, there will again be dry ice and bottled water distribution at the following locations:

  • Hudson Valley Mall, Route 9W, town of Ulster, former Best Buy parking lot
  • Rosendale Recreation Center, 1055 Route 32, Rosendale
  • Woodstock Community Center, 56 Rock City Road, Woodstock

Central Hudson expects to have electric service restored to 95 percent of impacted customers in the following towns by:

  • Esopus – Monday, Feb. 7, 10 p.m.
  • Hurley – Monday, Feb. 7, 10 p.m.
  • Kingston (City) – Monday, Feb. 7, 10 p.m.
  • Marbletown – Tuesday, Feb. 8, 10 p.m.
  • Olive – Monday, Feb. 7, Noon
  • Rochester – Monday, Feb. 7, 4 p.m.
  • Rosendale – Tuesday, Feb. 8, 10 p.m.
  • Saugerties – Monday, Feb. 7, Noon
  • Ulster – Monday, Feb. 7, 4 p.m.
  • Wawarsing – Monday, Feb. 7, 4 p.m.
  • Woodstock – Tuesday, Feb. 8, 10 p.m.

Central Hudson is conducting outreach to customers in the most heavily impacted areas, according to a spokesperson.

There have been 81 broken poles and more than 2,000 cases of downed lines. Meteorologists estimated anywhere from a half- to three-quarters inch of ice fell, wrapping itself around wires and tree limbs.

Ulster County is maintaining warming centers in the following locations:
