State Police Trying To ID Woman In ID Theft Ring

FISHKILL, NY — The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks is investigating a “Felony Lane Gang” identity theft ring. In security photos, a female suspect in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee cashed a forged check at a bank branch in Fishkill. Anyone who may be able to identify the women is asked to contact Investigator Kent Smith at the Wappinger barracks at 845-677-7300.

Police said suspects have stolen victims’ purses and wallets from vehicles in order to obtain credit cards, checkbooks and identification.

Some of the vehicles were broken into, and some vehicles were left unlocked for short periods of time while the victims went into a business or dropped their children off at daycare.

The suspects then made fraudulent purchases or cashed forged checks against the victims’ accounts.

Victims have been identified in numerous jurisdictions across the country.

Police said members of the public remember to lock their doors and not to leave valuables unsecured in their vehicles.
