Sting Talks to Jimmy Fallon About Performing in Poughkeepsie

The subject was largest and smallest audiences he's ever performed in front of.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The musician Sting appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday and gave a shout out to Poughkeepsie.

Fallon had asked Sting, whose real name is Gordon Sumner, what the largest audience he had performed in front of was.

Sting responded that he thought it was a half million people in Poland.

When Fallon asked what the smallest crowd was, Sting said that it was in Poughkeepsie with The Police at what was then called the Sal’s Last Chance Saloon.

Sting said there were three people scattered around the audience and he invited them to come up to the front of the stage after which the band gave them a full performance with five encores.

Fallon, who grew up in Saugerties, got his start in stand-up comedy at Bananas in Poughkeepsie, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
