Storm Warnings In Effect For Mid-Hudson Valley

The National Weather Service has upgraded its advisories from a winter storm watch.

Now that we have "the nuisance snow" out of the way, the second snow event to affect the Hudson Valley has prompted the National Weather Service to upgrade part of the mid-Hudson Valley to a winter storm warning. The warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 to 4 p.m Sunday, Jan. 20.

For Dutchess and eastern Ulster counties, heavy snow and mixed precipitation of sleet and freezing rain are expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches and ice accumulations of up to 1/10 of an inch are expected. Snowfall rates will be in the 1 to 2 inch an hour range at times Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Wind gusts are expected to be from 25 to 30 mph Sunday afternoon.

For Columbia and western Ulster counties, there could be snow accumulations of 12 to 20 inches, with wind gusts to 25 to 30 mph Sunday afternoon. Snowfall rates will be in the 1 to 3 inch an hour range at times Saturday night into Sunday morning.

For all areas, travel will be very difficult to impossible Saturday night through Sunday morning with snow or ice covered roadway and very low visibility in heavy snow.
