Storm Watches Issued For Parts Of Hudson Valley
Besides snow and ice, the forecast for Saturday into Sunday is also calling for wind gusts that could make travel extremely difficult.

With a major winter storm bearing down on the northeast, winter storm watches have been issued for parts of the mid-Hudson Valley. The National Weather Service said the following watches are in effect:
- Sullivan County — 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 through 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20
- Columbia and western Ulster counties — 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 through 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20
- Dutchess and eastern Ulster counties — 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20
The watches all concern heavy snow being possible beginning Saturday afternoon.
For Sullivan County, there could be from 8 inches to 14 inches of snow possible, with an additional 2/10 of an inch of ice accumulation. Wind gusts could be as high as 35 mph.

For Columbia and western Ulster counties, total snow accumulations could be up to 9 inches, and wind gusts as high as 30 mph could be seen Sunday afternoon and evening.

For Dutchess and eastern Ulster counties, heavy mixed precipitation is possible, with total snow and sleet accumulations in excess of 7 inches in 12 hours and ice accumulations of up to 2/10 of an inch possible. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
For all areas, travel could be very difficult to impossible, the NWS said.
The winds that pick up Sunday afternoon will likely cause blowing snow and possible dangerously low wind chills into Sunday night.
