Suspect Charged In Poughkeepsie Shooting Which Critically Injured Woman: PD
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the torso earlier this month, according to police.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a Feb. 7 shooting which critically injured a woman, police said.
Detective Lt. Sean McCarthy said police on Friday arrested Alphonso Higgs Jr., 58, and charged him with second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
The shooting happened on South White Street around 2:10 a.m. on Feb. 7. Police said they received a 911 call reporting a fight in the vicinity of 13 South White St.

While police were en route, they received an additional call reporting someone had been shot, according to McCarthy.
When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her torso. She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.

As of Friday, the victim remained hospitalized in stable condition, according to police. During their investigation, police recovered the firearm used in the shooting, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the police department’s tip line at 845-451-7577. Calls may be made anonymously.
Higgs was arraigned Friday in Poughkeepsie City Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
