Teenage Pedestrian Killed By SUV In Kiryas Joel

The ongoing investigation found that the 16-year-old abruptly walked into the roadway and was struck by a car, police said.

KIRYAS JOEL, NY — A teenager was killed Tuesday after being hit by a car in Kiryas Joel.

The New York State Police said the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on Forest Road in the village.

Police said the initial investigation found that Michael Gestetner 18, of Brooklyn, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse south on Forest Road when Aaron Freeman, 16, of Monroe, "abruptly entered the roadway" and was struck by the SUV.

Freeman was taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
