Thruway Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges For Trio

State police found cocaine and heroin in the car.

NEW PALTZ, NY — Three New Yorkers face drug charges after a traffic stop on the state thruway in New Paltz Thursday morning.

At about 2:30 a.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87, in the Town of New Paltz, for multiple vehicle and traffic violations. The interview of the driver, Joel T. Wilder, 25, of Fort Edward, NY, gave them probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants, police said.

During the subsequent search of the vehicle, cocaine and heroin were located. The driver and two passengers — Jamie L. Rogers, 28, of Fort Edward, NY and Jerome S. Miller, 42, of Herkimer, NY — were taken into custody, transported and processed in Newburgh, where they were charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree; a Class B Felony (with intent to sell) 2-counts
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree; a Class B Felony (narcotic drug) 2-counts
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree; a Class D Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree; a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument; a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Conceal/Alter/Destroy Physical Evidence; a Class E Felony
  • Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Violations


Rogers, Wilder and Miller are currently being processed and are awaiting arraignment.
