Thunderstorms, Rain To Trigger Major Weather Changes This Weekend For Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A cold front will move through the Hudson Valley this afternoon, bringing the potential for thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

After the front passes, it will feel more like fall, with much cooler temperatures.

The National Weather Service’s New York City office said today will have high temperatures in the 80s.

“A cold front pushes through this evening with showers and possible storms,” the National Weather Service said.

For the southern Hudson Valley, it predicts a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m., with both becoming more likely through the evening.

The National Weather Service’s Albany office predicts “clouds and showers will expand from northwest to southeast today,” in the mid-Hudson Valley. It predicts the likeliest timeframe for precipitation will be between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“A much cooler air mass takes hold for the rest of next week,” the National Weather Service said.

For the weekend, Saturday is expected to be a nice day for outdoor activities, with sunny skies and high temperatures around 70 degrees. Sunday will be partly sunny and cooler, with highs in the mid-60s and a chance of afternoon and evening showers, according to the National Weather Service.

For Monday through Thursday, its meteorologists predict clear, dry, fall-like weather, with daytime high temperatures in the 60s.

Today: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Mostly sunny early, then becoming cloudy, with a high near 84. West wind 8 to 10 mph.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a chance of showers between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 57. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 70. North wind 6 to 8 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. Light east wind.

Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. East wind 7 to 9 mph.

Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 68.

Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 45.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 61.

Tonight: A slight chance of showers before 9 p.m. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 52. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 69. North wind 3 to 7 mph.

Saturday Night: Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 47. Light northeast wind.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 66. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
