Thunderstorms Threaten Dutchess, Ulster

The first days of summer will feel more like the middle as temps rise above average, Hudson Valley Weather predicts.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous outlook for Dutchess and Ulster counties.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon. The storms are not expected to be severe, but locally heavy downpours are possible.

And for good measure, the NWS offered a look at the beginning of the work week:

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Monday through Wednesday. The probability of severe thunderstorms is low at this time, but locally heavy downpours are possible.
Heat indices may reach the mid to upper 90s in the Hudson Valley on Tuesday. A Heat Advisory may be needed.

It's going to be humid and abnormally hot, warn Bill Potter and Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather.

With the arrival of summer will come a multi day stretch of heat and building humidity," they said. "It will feel like the middle of summer, because with average highs around 80° at this point in the year, when we add in temperatures about 5 degrees above average over the next 7 days … that puts us in the mid to upper 80s for highs, and with humidity, it will feel around 90°. Last weekend felt like spring … but this weekend, we’ll definitely feel like summer!"
