Tornado Warning Issued For Southwest Sullivan County

Residents were advised to take shelter as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado moved into the area Saturday night.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for southwest Sullivan County Saturday night.

The warning was issued for 6:34 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Fosterdale, or 11 miles southwest of Liberty, moving north at 30 mph. Residents were advised to take cover.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely," the weather service warned. "This dangerous storm will be near... Jeffersonville and White Sulphur Springs around 645 PM EDT."
