UNION VALE, NY — Work to improve an intersection in the Town of Union Vale has been scheduled to begin in July. The Dutchess County Department of Public works said work will begin on the intersection of Bruzgul Road/Wingdale Mountain Road (CR 21) and Clove Valley Road/Clove Road (CR9) around July 15.

Officials said the $276,020 project is designed to improve traffic safety and sight distance with a redesigned intersection.

Occasional traffic delays should be anticipated during the project, which is expected to be completed by mid- to late-August.

A conventional four-way intersection will be built with 4-foot shoulders replacing the existing island.

Once finished, the new intersection will give right-of-way to motorists on Bruzgul Road/Wingdale Mountain Road with Clove Valley Road/Clove Road controlled by stop signs.

The intersection averages about 6,160 vehicles per day, officials said.

The intersection will remain open during construction with occasional lane closures that will cause traffic delays and interruptions. Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site, obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs and the directions from flaggers in the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.
