Upstate Man Arrested For Armed Robbery: Police

His getaway car was tracked through four counties before he was apprehended.

WINDHAM, NY — State police arrested an upstate man for allegedly robbing a bank. At 2:10 p.m. Oct. 18, troopers were called to the NBT Bank on Route 296 in Windham, Greene County, for a reported armed robbery. State police, Greene County Sheriff's Office and Windham Town Police all responded to the scene.

Police said a lone subject, armed with a handgun, entered the bank and stole money.

He fled from the bank driving a tan four-door Chevrolet Impala.

A command post was established at the Windham Fire Department and police tracked the vehicle through the towns of Ashland and Prattsville, then Delaware County, Schoharie County and eventually to Herkimer County.

A description of the man and the car had been sent to law enforcement agencies in the state.

Around 9:30 p.m., the car and subject were observed in Little Falls, Herkimer County.

Gary J. Pett, 42, of Ilion, Herkimer County was taken into custody. State police said they recovered the money stolen from the bank.

Pett was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, and was arraigned in the Town of Cairo Court.

He was sent to the Greene County Jail without bail.
