Victims In Deadly, Head-On 9W Collision Identified By New York State Police
After using the shoulder of the northbound lane, a Honda struck a snowbank, crossed into the southbound lane, hitting a Kia, NYSP said.

TOWN OF MARLBORO, NY — Officials have released the identities of the victims in a deadly crash in Ulster County.
The New York State Police say that on Friday, around 12:56 p.m., troopers from the Highland barracks responded to the area of State Route 9W and Mahoney Road, in the town of Marlboro, after receiving a report of a two-vehicle collision.
Investigators say a 2010 Honda was traveling north on State Route 9W, when it attempted to pass a vehicle by using the eastern shoulder of the northbound lane.

While driving on the shoulder, the Honda struck a small snowbank and continued partially off the roadway, according to police. As the driver tried to reenter the northbound lane, the vehicle overcorrected and crossed into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2023 Kia.
The driver of the Honda was identified as 25-year-old Isaiah D. Towne, of Montgomery. He was extricated from the vehicle but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and only occupant of the Kia was identified as 74-year-old Angela A. Freeborn, of Marlboro. She was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Medical Center with serious injuries and is listed in stable condition.
State police say the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at State Police Highland at 845-344-5300.
